New Reads for 2021

One thing I've noticed during my first ten years as a teacher is that YA lit (or young adult literature) has exploded recently! There are so many different books to choose from, and a variety of genres for students of all ages. Whether you love sci fi, graphic novels, history, romance, adventure, etc., there are books for your interest.

This summer, I came across the American Library Association's list of the best YA books for 2021, so I thought I'd share that here. I haven't read any of these new ones just yet, but some of them are on my list, so be sure to check in with me throughout the school year. I did read one new 2021 YA book so far this summer-- a sweet and humorous one called "Tokyo Ever After" by Emiko Jean. Though it's not on this list, I think it would be a great hit for any students who would like to read romance or modern stories of monarchies, as well as anyone who has ever felt out of place. With a bit of more mature language and an 18-year-old narrator, it would be best suited for my high school students.
